SIUF Upgrades its Standards

14 November 2017

It isn’t enough to be the biggest – with 800 exhibitors – the Shenzhen International Underwear Fair wants to be the best. New management and structural investments will have visible results at the upcoming 2018 show, taking place from the 19th to the 21st of April. Mr Zhang, SIUF’s Chief Executive, replies to Intima Asia’s questions.

Mr Zhang, how can you tell us more about SIUF 2018?
Since the last edition, we have been working on several aspects of the fair in order to keep on improving the show. From an organizational point of view, we appointed a new General Manager, Mr Yang with 20-years industrial experience who will be responsible for coordinating our various activities such as comprehensive media promotion of the fair. Our international sales department has been structured with area managers for Asia, Europe and America, and we are in the process of increasing the number of our agents in each of the countries.

Intima’s European teams noticed the presence of one of your representatives at the Mare d’Amare fair in Italy last summer, can we expect to see an Italian pavilion in 2018?
As you know we have started hosting international pavilions in 2017; the outcome has been encouraging and we are presently working on several options. Taiwan will participate again and our teams are in advanced negotiations with the partners from Hong Kong, Germany and, yes, Italy.

Is there any other relevant information you can share with our readers?
I believe that you will be pleased to learn we changed our main contractor, we have assigned the job to Milton Exhibits Group in order to improve the overall experience of international exhibitors.

It is true that the efficiency of the on-site services can make a big change in exhibitors’ perception, especially if they come from outside of China…
It’s true that international exhibitors – and visitors – need to feel at home at SIUF, and they will. At the same time, doing business in a country as big as China also needs some preparation. We really encourage foreign exhibitors to book a skilled translator if they want to make the best out of their presence. We are considering that add the translation service as an optional service provided for overseas exhibitor with a package price.

Potential international exhibitors are very concerned about the profile of visitors. Can you give us more details on who they are?
We are devoting a lot of our time to gathering the top 100 best retailers and top 10 distributors from each province. For next year’s exhibition, we plan to categorize these visitors into four major sections which are agents, retailers, department stores and manufacturers. Actually, there were many agents seeking corporation with foreign lingerie brands. They have their own distribution channels including physical stores all over China. For instance, Jinmiao Lingerie in Hebei province which has millions USD annual revenue. I believe it’ll be a rare opportunity for both overseas exhibitors and Chinese enterprises.

SIUF is not just a B2B fair but a full communication platform for the lingerie industry, you host best brands awards, a design competition, branded fashion shows as well as a national model competition… Can you tell us more about the upcoming events?
Those activities you mentioned were really successful over the last few years. However, we always want to do better especially for our overseas exhibitors. There will be different types of tailor-made services and visitors can choose the most appropriate one. We are introducing B2B meetings to try to help clients save time when finding buyers. For suppliers, we are going to organize meetings with purchasing managers and designers from Embryform, Aimer, Wacoal, Maniform and so on. On the other hand, for brands, we will call together the best distributors and agents in China.

In 2015, you also organized the Phoenix Dance Trip show, a charity program involving the lingerie industry with live shows in four cities. Who participated and what was the outcome of the first edition?
The Phoenix Dance Trip show teamed up with around 15 Chinese lingerie brands such as Crystal Secret, Lovsoneve and Bodibody. We went to four provincial capital cities: Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenyang and Zhengzhou. All the participators were satisfied with the outcome as the show brought the brands and local distributors closer together. It also stimulated regional lingerie market to a certain extent. Therefore, we organized this show again in Jinan, the capital city in Shandong province on the 13th of August this year. There will be more activities to follow as we think it’s necessary to do more for industrial responsibility.

Last indiscreet question: is Victoria’s Secret having their famous show in Shenzhen?
We used to discuss the cooperation issues we had with Victoria’s Secret. However, I think that most audiences have heard that the Victoria’s Secret show will be held in Shanghai this year. I believe that we can work together in the future.
