Intima Asia is once again proud to participate in The Charm of Oriental China International Underwear Creative Design Competition’s international jury, held in Shenzhen during the SIUF fair.

Founded in 2012, the Charm of Oriental China International Underwear Creative Design Contest is an industrial design contest hosted by the Shenzhen Underwear Association, Committee of Guangming New District, China Knitting Industry Association, and Guangdong Textile Association and Hongkong Intimate Apparel Industries’ Association. Over the years, it has become one of the largest professional contests with the most extensive coverage, the greatest number of entries and the most social influence in the Chinese underwear industry. It continues to make a significant impact, both in China and abroad; since 2014, the contest has been listed as “one of the eight key contests in support of industrial design” by the Shenzhen Municipal Government.
The contest is dedicated to providing a stage for those who show passion for design and underwear, thereby singling out the most talented designers. It is also a great opportunity to promote the development of creative underwear design.

Over 4,000 students
Besides managing the biggest fair in China, SIUF also hosts a national design contest that brings together projects carried out by students from all of mainland China and Hong Kong. This year over 4,000 students – over 3,500 for the general group and over 500 for the professional group – interpreted the theme “Blending Pleasures” for the general group and “Sports Underwear” for the professional group, and took part in the selection process co-organized by major universities including: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Xi 'an Polytechnic University, Donghua University, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Wuhan Textile University, Zhejiang Sci-tech University and Zhongyuan University of Technology.

20 Finalists
As per the contest’s rules, only 20 design projects were accepted for the final round and were produced thanks to the technical support of Embryform (China) Garments Ltd, Cosmo Lady (China) Holdings Company Limited, Magnifique Limited and Bodystyle. For this edition, 5 sets of underwear per project, together with accompanying accessories, were produced and professional pictures were taken in order to present a complete lookbook for the official jury. On the evening, over 700 guests attended the catwalk and followed the live voting of each member of the jury, along with over 70,000 streaming viewers!

A High-Profile International Jury
For each edition of the content, the event organizers put together a trusted professional jury comprising prominent national and international industry personalities. For the 2018 edition, the members of the jury were: Liza Cheng, Executive Director & CEO of Embry Holdings Limited and President of SUA (Shenzhen Underwear Association), Victor Vega, President of The Underfashion Club , Jasonpaul McCarthy, Director of the Associate Degrees (AAS) in Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing at Parsons School of Design / The New School, Winnie Yu, retired Professor of Fashion & Textile Technology - Clothing in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Uta Witting, Senior VP of Design and Product Development in Clover Group Hongkong, Fang Wang, Professor, MA student advisor and chair of Donghua University Fashion Art and Design Department, Chi Liu, Head of department of Intimate Clothing, Apparel and Art Design College, Xi’an Polytechnic University, and PhD of Clothing Engineering, University of Manchester and Francesca Spinetta, Co-Owner and Editorial Director of Intima Media Group.

12 Awards

This year, the prizes were of significant value yet again and reached a total amount of 231,000 Yuan (about 34,000 USD) for the general group. The first prize of 150,000 Yuan (about 22,000 USD) went to Liping Huang and Qiaoyun Tang for their work “Shining sun and bright moon” for its interesting combination of tough shapes and elegant lace to highlight feminine curves. The second prize of 50,000 Yuan (about 7,400 USD) went to Ke Qu with its project “Unordered”, characterized by a contrast between disordered lines and curves, a combination of hard and soft, a mix of various colors and fabrics. The third prize of 10,000 Yuan (about 1,500 USD) went to Diego Alcázar Fuentes for his work “LikING”, an innovative interpretation of the underwear with lingerie sets proposed in red and gray to allow a woman to express her more devilish side, completed by traditional Mexican accessories. To support the overall quality of participants, 5 Excellence Awards of 3,000 Yuan (about 440 USD) each were given to: Virginia Cheng for her work “The Secret”, Wen Zhou for “Common integration promotion”, Belle Wu and Vicky Sun for their project “Mixture”, Chung King Yan and Wong Tsz Wing for “Permeable” and Cyan Qian for “Gentle in Rigidity”. Last but not least, The Most Commercial Value Award of 3,000 Yuan also went to “Shining sun and bright moon”, the previously awarded underwear design by Liping Huang and Qiaoyun Tang, while Belle Wu and Vicky Sun also received the Best Online Popularity Award for their project “Mixture” that received 21,236 online votes!

Entry Information
There will be two contest tracks in 2019: the General Group and the Professional Group.
General Group: Domestic and foreign professional designers, teachers and students from professional fashion colleges and universities, and freelancers with a passion for design are welcome, irrespective of age.
Professional Group: Enterprises or freelance designers fully engaged in underwear design for more than three years.
